Microsoft Announces New MCA Certification

Microsoft has announced a new designation for their Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA) board-level certification program. Joining the MCA: Messaging program is the MCA: Database option. Obviously, this certification will focus on Microsoft's SQL Server, but will include other database technologies as well.

This new program is virtually unobtainable given the rigorous requirements that are listed below:

- Candidate must work for Microsoft or a Microsoft Gold certified partner.
- Candidate must pay $25,000.
- Must be nominated by an MCA: Database title holder.
- Must pass exam 70-290 or 70-292.
- Must have MCITP (either Database Developer or Database Administrator).
- Complete 4 weeks of training in Redmond with weekly written exams.
- Complete a lab-based exam.
- Appear before a peer review board.

More information about the new MCA designation can be found here.

That's so ridiculous..........25K?!?!?!

So how does the first become the first? Don't they need to be a current MCA Database holder....

That should come with stock options and a dinner with Billy to ask what the hell they were thinking when the price came up.

There are Microsoft employees who already hold this credential, no doubt. They will nominate people who work for their technology partners or very large customers, who will nominate other employees, etc.

The $25K is steep, but it isn't intended for Joe MCSE to walk in and take an exam. It's more for large companies or solution providers and the individual would in almost all cases not be footing the bill.
